Greater Toronto Area Base Members – Sailing Races to Win – Mon and Tue

Members in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) have been meeting twice weekly for some friendly racing and a lot of sailing fun!  Rain or shine, windy or not, this is a great social sport.  The teams are comprised of those who really know how to win a sailboat race and those who want to learn from these exceptional sailors.

Every Monday at Port Credit Yacht Club in Mississauga, SailTime GTA’s “Oasis” and “@C” compete in the club’s race for cruisers.  “Oasis” was 1st again this past week with “@C” a respectable 2nd despite a restart. These results should put us at the top of the fleet.

Shown above is “Never Say Never”, a SailTime Hunter 36, in fine form at the Bronte Outer Harbour in Oakville where she races every Tuesday night.   This was an exciting race where SailTime GTA’s “Bow Movement” had a great start way ahead of the fleet. The rest of the fleet fought back and SailTime GTA’s “Never Say Never” managed to squeak across the finish line 1 foot ahead of “Mixed Nuts”.

These races are for everyone — even our power boat members are getting the sailboat racing bug!  We have already encountered all kinds of conditions and each race has challenged us with lots of onboard tactics.  We have had a race with next to no wind … anybody can sail with wind, but to sail with next to no wind, that is truly the skill of a fine yacht racer!
