Long Island Base Lends a Helping Hand

Mathias from the Long Island base reports, “One of our sailboats was used as an escort vessel for the “Swim Across the Sound” relay teams which included one of our own members. This annual event, now in its 23rd year, helps to raise funds in the fight against cancer. This distance swim has both relay teams and solo swimmers racing from the Port Jefferson, NY Harbor entrance to Captain’s Cove Marina in Blackrock Harbor, Bridgeport, CT.  That’s a 15+ mile swim!” SailTime Long Island was happy to support one of its members through the use of our Hunter 38 based out of Long Island. It was a phenomenal day with great weather, smooth seas, and an 11th place finish against some pretty stiff (and much younger) competition.  Not bad for a team that included several old geezers.

In this picture you can see the relay team as they head out of Port Jefferson Harbor on “Golden Nugget” to the start of this marathon swim event.
