Catamaran Joins West Coast Fleet

“Seas the Day”, a 2012 Gemini Catamaran, is set to enter the SailTime Newport Beach fleet in a couple of weeks.  The owners of the new boat are the Altman’s of Las Vegas, NV.  Their most recent boat was a Hunter 35 that they kept in San Diego, CA where they had a partnership. They have dreamed of cruising on a big catamaran in the Caribbean for years, but felt a small cat closer to home was the first step while still working. This is the third Gemini to enter the SailTime fleet this year. There are also Cats in Annapolis and Philadelphia.

“Seas the Day” was built with the beautiful new interior by Hunter in Florida.  The catamaran sailboat will be on an end tie slip for ease of docking in Newport Beach which has become the most popular base for SailTime on the West Coast.   The boat will have a full set of Raymarine electronics including Radar.  One option everyone is getting excited about is the “screecher” sail.  Typical Newport Beach sailing winds can be rather light so this will really help on those light wind days.  The boat has so much more storage capacity then a typical monohull.  No need to stack stuff on top of each other any more.  Another exciting option is the dinghy that will be on davits always ready to launch and take members to shore at Catalina or explore the quiet beaches of Catalina.  The boat is also equipped with a large hammock chair for all of your crew to relax while you enjoy flat sailing.

“Membership positions are still available, but the six positions will fill up fast,” says Base Owner, Chris Jester. He continues, “Ever since Members heard this yacht was coming, the excitement has been building. It will be a great addition to the other yachts in the fleet.” This year alone, the base has added a new Hunter e36 and Hunter 45DS to the fleet. A new Hunter e33 is scheduled to join the fleet in October, making four new yachts available to Members in 2012 alone!
