Getting to Know the Excess 11

The Excess 11 is the perfect catamaran for SailTime Memberships and hits all the right notes whether you are a day sailor or prefer multi-day voyages. She is one of the smallest cruising catamarans capable of offering so much comfort and space, not to mention the thrill of sailing. But don’t let the size fool you, the Excess 11 is a boat capable of long passages and is made for life on board. The work of the naval architects and designers has been focused on one objective: to create a real cruising catamaran capable of taking you to the most remote spots on earth to enjoy an isolated cove, an abandoned beach or a secret wave.

It’s no secret that cruising catamarans have become increasingly popular over the past 10 years. Unlike traditional monohulls, catamarans offer a tremendous amount of room for great on-board living. And, they don’t heel over but instead, sail nice and flat providing for an easy ride in a variety of conditions.

Tour the Excess 11

Most of the cruising catamarans on the market today, feature a single steering station located high up over the cabin top. While this provides for good visibility, some of the thrill of actually sailing the boat is diminished since the helmsman is so far away from the water. The Excess 11 and the Excess brand in general, has opted to keep the wheels (yes, two of them) down low much like a traditional monohull does. This provides for more of a “sporty feel without losing the other benefits that come with a cruising cat.

Another benefit of the Excess 11 is its size. At 37’5”, the Excess 11 is one of the smaller catamarans on the market. This makes it fun to sail and easy to handle, even by just two people. And while the Excess 11 is smaller in length than some other cats on the market, with an overall beam of 21’7”, the Excess 11 still offers an abundance of space both on deck and inside the main salon.

The Excess 11 features 3 large staterooms and 2 large heads making it ideal for getting away with family or friends. In short, there is nothing we at SailTime don’t love about the Excess 11!
