Hi, I’m Mike Fitzhugh, base owner of SailTime Portland. Our base location is located on Hayden Island, the center of the sailing community, on the Columbia River. The Columbia River is the largest river in the Pacific Northwest region of North America. The river rises in the Rocky Mountains of British Columbia, Canada and it stretches 1,200 miles to the west to the Pacific Ocean. The river is known for several things such as the Windsurfing Capital of the World Hood River Oregon or the mighty Columbia River Bar. Although our main day sailing is in between these two destinations in Portland, our typical day of sailing is usually one with a scenic view of Mt. Hood.
