I am a local captain who hails from Fisherman Bay on Lopez Island.  When I am not chartering or teaching sailing, I can be found on my own boat exploring the many wonderful waterways of the San Juan/Gulf Islands (amassing 7 years of local experience and knowledge).

I always hold a safety-first perspective and hope to be a present, “guide by your side,” while you learn by doing.  The ultimate goal will be for you to obtain the necessary skills to continue on to future ports enjoyably and with confidence.  This approach has been found by my students to be successful, as evidenced by my being awarded ASA 2024 Instructor of the Year.

I strive to remain humble and look for opportunities to learn and improve my skill set to better serve you and others.  Please note: I am also a social creature and look to inject humor and playfulness at the most rewarding opportunities.

For over 40 years I have had fantastic and unique boating experiences in the Great Lakes, Southern California, Mexico, Hawaii, the inside passages of Alaska, and a few Caribbean locations. Yet, I consider my surrounding islands some of the most beautiful and dynamic the world has to offer – I hope to challenge that with more adventures.
