Larry Troyano’s journey into boating began in the mid-1990s when he transitioned from a previous career to become a boat sales manager. In 2005, he purchased a Beneteau dealership in the NYC area. Years later, his son Andrew joined the family business, eventually taking over daily operations. In 2017, the pair expanded into shared boating with the SailTime franchise, offering fractional sailboat ownership and memberships.
Under their management, SailTime New York has flourished, and now, two decades since its launch, the location boasts a robust fleet of Beneteau sailboats and powerboats in both the SailTime and PowerTime programs. “I was managing our Beneteau dealership when we discovered SailTime,” says Andrew. “I knew firsthand the complexities and costs of boat ownership. SailTime was a compelling solution—it removes the stress of ownership while offering members all the enjoyment of sailing.”
Located in Jersey City, just a quick ferry or PATH ride from Manhattan, the base offers convenient access to iconic views of the Statue of Liberty and lower Manhattan, and easy getaways to Long Island Sound or Sandy Hook. “It’s not just about accessibility—it’s the adventures you can have,” says Andrew. “From anchoring at Sandy Hook Beach to cruising the East River, there’s always something magical just around the corner.”
Another great aspect is that it’s just a short ride up the East River to reach Long Island Sound for longer trips with endless destinations from there. If you’re looking for a quick getaway without the time for a longer boat trip into the sound, you can easily head under the Verrazano Bridge into Raritan Bay, New Jersey, to escape the hustle and bustle of NYC life and anchor out at Sandy Hook beach or pick up a mooring and go into town for some shopping and dining in Atlantic Highlands.
Over the years, SailTime New York has become a beloved base for both seasoned sailors and newcomers alike. The Troyanos are proud of the close relationships they’ve built with their members. “Nine times out of ten, our members tell us SailTime either introduced them to boating or brought them back to it,” Andrew shares. “And our high renewal rate proves how well the model works.”

With deep roots in the boating industry, extensive technical know-how, and a passion for customer service, the Troyanos ensure their fleet is well-maintained and their members are always supported. “We sell and service the same boats we put into our fleet,” Andrew notes. “That gives us a level of expertise and responsiveness that directly benefits our members.”
