The San Diego Bay is known as one of the best places to sail on the west coast. An average day is 70 degrees with wind 10-12 knots out of the north-west. Sailors love the fact that they have nearly 15 miles of navigable water between the Coronado Bay Bridge and Point Loma, past the point is the Pacific Ocean.
A short 2-3 hour sail to Mission Bay is a popular weekend getaway with easy anchoring and plenty of onshore activities. The sailing season is year round and the winter months are a great time to do some whale watching as the grey whales migrate south to give birth.
