Northeast Florida Sailing Rendezvous Planned

Hunter sailboat owners and SailTime Members are planning a rendezvous sailing adventure May 6-9, 2010. It’s open to  all boat owners, and it’s the best deal in town – it’s free! Just sign on with the group by contacting the Northeast Florida base and bring your boat to St. Augustine on Wednesday, May 5th.

On Thursday, the group will sail offshore from Camachee Cove to Fernandina. Then on Friday, sailors will reach the Cumberland Island anchorage early enough to have plenty of time for exploring. A late afternoon kayak trip is planned with Kayak Adventures. That evening there will be a pot luck supper on the island. Saturday is a leisurely day. Take a morning guided kayak tour or just enjoy the serenity of the island. Leave at noon for Beach Marine and cocktails at the Tiki Bar. Sunday, the group will return sail to St Augustine.

Cumberland Island is the largest of the Sea Islands of coastal Southern Georgia and is part of the National Park System’s National Seashore. At one time, the island was owned by the Carnegie family, who sold it to the federal government in 1971 to create the national park and is currently one of the most undeveloped places in the United States and represents what this part of the country looked like before being settled.
