Jason Mendell is a successful luxury real estate agent in Portland, Oregon. He is also a family man, and he loves spending quality time with his wife and two young children. Jason, who grew up on the water, needed an activity that would help him enhance his business relationships and enjoy time off with his family. He found PowerTime, and he hasn’t looked back.
“There’s nothing else like this in Portland,” Jason says of the boat-sharing program. “It’s a double-edged sword. I don’t want to share the secret, but if I get all my friends to join, we’ll end up boating together anyways.”SailTime launched its new branch, PowerTime, in 2019. Along with Portland, the program is also available in Seattle, Houston, and Miami. PowerTime will soon be available at SailTime bases in New York, Annapolis, and Milwaukee.
It works just like SailTime. For a monthly fee, PowerTime members have access to luxury powerboats without making a long-term commitment. PowerTime members can schedule blocks of time online to enjoy a new-model powerboat without the hassle or expense of ownership.
Jason knew how to drive a boat before he knew how to drive a car. He wants his two young kids to grow up on the water as well, but he doesn’t want to deal with the hassle of owning a boat. With Jason’s PowerTime membership, he has access to a Jeanneau NC 795 seven days a month.
“We have all the benefits of owning a boat without actually owning it and paying for maintenance,” explains Jason. “This is a safe, fun activity. The boat is always clean and sanitized after every use, so we feel comfortable using it.”
Jason enjoys taking the boat out on the water with his family and friends. He also regularly invites clients on board for a unique experience.
“The boat is usually available after work. I’ll invite clients on the boat, and we’ll talk over snacks and wine,” says Jason. “This helps us create a special bond. Not everybody is great at golf, but everybody can sit down on a boat and enjoy the water.”With PowerTime, members don’t need to leave the dock to experience the fun. The Jeanneau offers a place for everyone to sleep, a restroom, and several seating areas.
“The boat is beautiful. It’s perfect for us, and it’s comfortable,” Jason says. “Being in the Pacific Northwest, it’s not always about being out on a sunny day. Being in the cabin and closing the door on a rainy day is just as enjoyable.”
With a PowerTime membership, there’s no extra docking fee. Members sign up for their time on the boat and enjoy it however they’d like — even if they don’t take it anywhere.
“I don’t think I need to buy a boat after having this membership. We get plenty of boating,” says Jason. “PowerTime has changed the way we thought about boat ownership. Boats have always been interesting to me, but I don’t have the time to have all the headaches of actually owning a boat. For us, this is the right way to go.”
