The class was held at Winthrop Harbor, near the Wisconsin border. Captain Stewart went over charts and navigational techniques with the ladies as they planned their course to Gaslight Harbor in Racine, WI. They sailed on Eagle Ray, a beautiful 36 foot, fully loaded Hunter sailboat. The trip took about 4 hours. The day was beautiful but the winds were light. They started out by motorsailing untill they found some wind and then the sails were raised for a wonderful sail. Jim explained to the Ladies how to use a handheld GPS along with the Raymarine chartplotter installed on the boat. They charted their course and all too soon, arrived at their intended destination. Trink belongs to a racing club and participates as crew adjusting sails but has had little time spent at the helm. With SailTime, she was able to spend more time during the class handling the boat and keeping Eagle Ray on course.
Under the tutelage of their instructor, mother and daughter found their way to home port the next day with another great sail and plenty of time for learning new things and seeing the sights along the way.
