Boston, MA – September 16, 2024 – SailTime Boston is proud to announce the celebration of its 20th anniversary, marking two decades of providing exceptional sailing and boating experiences to the Boston community. To commemorate this significant milestone, SailTime Boston is unveiling exciting new offerings and events that enhance the sailing experience for new and long-standing members.
Founded in 2004 by Doug Giuliana, SailTime Boston has grown from a single location to a thriving base with multiple locations around the Boston Harbor area. Under the current stewardship of owners Captain Paul Sullivan and Brian Moseley, the organization has established itself as a cornerstone of Boston’s maritime community. The bases include Charlestown Marina, Safe Harbor Marina Bay in Quincy, and the East Boston Harbor Shipyard, where their main office is located.
Paul’s passion for sailing ignited at a young age, thanks to a summer camp counselor who introduced him to the sport. His enthusiasm led his parents to buy him a “snark,” a small styrofoam boat he sailed daily. As his love for sailing grew, he acquired a Catalina 27 keelboat, which he lived aboard during summers. His dedication continued through high school and college racing, culminating in sailing certifications and a Captain’s license, which shaped his career as a sailing instructor.
Brian gained experience as an entrepreneur during his decade-long tenure working for successful marketing technology companies in Boston. His sailing career started while he lived in New Zealand, where he took lessons at the Auckland Harbor Yacht Club.
While in Boston, he discovered SailTime at the New England boat show and became a club member for six years before teaming up with friend & business partner Paul Sullivan to buy the business from Doug.
When asked about their decision to purchase the SailTime franchise, Paul Sullivan shared, “My journey with SailTime began when I moved to Boston in 2012 and started working as a sailing instructor. The connection with SailTime, and my partnership with Brian Moseley, who completed his ASA 101 certification with me, made purchasing the franchise in 2019 a natural next step.”
Brian Moseley added, “Meeting Paul in 2014 and sharing our passion for sailing laid the foundation for our partnership. Our combined skills in marketing, business, and sailing have been instrumental in our success and the growth of SailTime & PowerTime Boston.”
SailTime Boston is renowned for its exceptional fleet, including a variety of well-maintained sailboats and powerboats. Members enjoy the flexibility of fractional boating without the burdens of ownership. The fleet’s quality, along with a strong sense of community, has made SailTime Boston a favorite among local boaters.
The SailTime Boston sailing school provides comprehensive training for all skill levels, from beginners to advanced sailors. Members receive hands-on instruction from certified instructors, focusing on essential skills and safety. They also offer public courses, giving non-members the opportunity to learn sailing and potentially join the SailTime community.
The marinas themselves, especially the historic Charlestown Marina, offer prime locations and stunning views of the city skyline. “The modern amenities and welcoming atmosphere at our marinas are key attractions for our members,” said Sullivan. Boston provides a distinctive sailing experience with its historic waterfront, 34 scenic harbor islands, and lively maritime culture. Members can enjoy day sails through Boston Harbor, visit landmarks like the Boston Light, and explore nearby destinations such as Marblehead and Cape Cod. The blend of urban and natural beauty offers a truly exceptional setting for sailing adventures.
Looking ahead, SailTime Boston’s goals for the upcoming year are to expand the fleet, enhance the training programs, and boost member engagement with exciting new events and activities. They also plan to fortify their partnerships within the local maritime community, ensuring they continue to deliver outstanding service and experiences for all members.
One of the SailTime Boston members, a first-time sailor when he joined, recently shared a heartwarming story about how sailing has strengthened his family’s bond. They now spend their weekends exploring Boston Harbor and nearby islands, creating cherished memories together.
Sullivan and Moseley express their gratitude to the members who have supported SailTime Boston over the years. “It’s their passion for boating that makes our community special,” says Sullivan. “We look forward to another fantastic year of sailing and adventure on the beautiful waters of Boston Harbor.”
